Accountability, Advocacy and Action
Rahum and his family relocated to Montclair in 2015, attracted by its diverse community, quality schools, and proximity to New York City. Since arriving in Montclair, Rahum has engaged with the Town Council on a range of different issues from traffic calming measures at dangerous intersections; the repair of playgrounds to ensure that our children can play safely; failing infrastructure; and requesting that the Town Council vote against the Glenridge Fire Service contract because it was not a good deal for Montclair. Though opposed to the specific structure of the contract to provide Glenridge with fire protection services, Rahum favors shared service agreements. Rahum petitioned Governor Phil Murphy to push for legislation that requires municipalities in New Jersey to engage in shared service contracts, in an effort to help control property taxes.
History
Raised in the Bed-Stuy and Brownsville sections of Brooklyn by a social activist, Rahum inherited a passion for community advocacy. From petitioning Brooklyn’s community boards for safer streets to leading initiatives for neighborhood beautification, he’s been a catalyst for positive change. During his tenure on his former buildings co-op board, he spearheaded cost saving initiatives, ensuring affordable maintenance charges for residents.
Career
Rahum has worked for three institutions and held various roles over his nearly three decades in commercial finance. Presently, Rahum is a Senior Vice President at one of the largest banks in the country, where he oversees a team that manages lending facilities to middle-market companies in the U.S. and Canada. Rahum graduated from Berkeley College with a B.S. in Business Management.
Hobbies
In his downtime, Rahum finds solace in long-distance running, striving for the Abbott World Majors 6 Star Finisher Medal by conquering marathons worldwide. Having completed marathons in London, Tokyo, Berlin, Chicago, and New York, Rahum now aims to qualify for the Boston Marathon. An avid reader, Rahum is a frequent visitor to Montclair’s main library. Rahum mentors early career professionals in his industry and supports several charities that focus on providing educational resources to underprivileged children. However, Rahum’s greatest pride lies in his supportive wife and four daughters, who infuse his life with meaning and motivation.
